Odell Vs Giants

Pay the Man!!!

Odell Beckham and his highlight catches scream out to the football know it faithful and the greater Giant fan base to just pay the man. He has consistently shown to be one of the if not the best in the game.

The flashes that make us go ooooooo or wooooowwwww really stand out. Some of the bad behavior on and off the field has done the same thing.

It makes you wonder why is he doing that? Why is he not practicing the control of his emotions like he has shown in controlling his body? That type of body control is world class and would be some of the best in any sport.

If he would get control of his emotions that would free the Giants up even more, thus opening the bank up for him without other concerns.

I would dare to say and speculate that we have only seen the highlights of the actions that have proven over time to be cancerous to many teams. I’m guessing that what we have seen is the tip of the iceberg.

No one knows you like your family. The Giants know Odell best.

Why else would the Giants coaches, GM, and ownership not make Odell one of the highest paid receivers in the game?

Eli has spoken about his actions. The head coach did as well and finally at the end of the season Jerry Reese, the GM stepped up and challenged Odell.

Many will say that they (Giants) are trying to speak negative about him to keep his money down. If so then they will suffer on a different level.

Instead of him staying away from the organization, perhaps he should get a Lords of London Insurance, which insures and covers possible injury, then go show the Giants that he has grown some. The Emotional Maturity that they seek from him on and off the field should be put on display.

That way, the trust he has earned in making plays, he can demonstrate that better judgment and growth while in house and with interactions with the players and coaches. Staying away may help, but having interface with the team and working to improve your craft may get him what he desires quicker.

From the Giants perspective, they can offer Odell a contact that is incentive laced in regards to the concerns they have, especially from a team building perspective. This is not their first rodeo with a problem player. (LT)

The best solution is to always operate from a team based perspective. What’s best for the team will be best for the individual.

I would love to see the Emotional Maturity be developed in a player as physically talented as Odell Beckham. Seeking to grow from his experiences has the potential to take him and his team to another level.

Good Soldier or Not

A process of getting your orders, mentally ingesting them or make them yours, has to be taken to heart. Either you take the lead in this part of the team process or you may become one of the ones that will not fulfill your potential.

Good and great players have a way of receiving good coaching and making the coaching points better. In my mind a good player can play in any system because he has the ability to make his game relevant in any scheme.

The players that take ownership of the information given to them, then have the ability to do what’s required of them, make the others on the team better. They do this by spreading the good news to the others in a way that requires them to acquiesce.

Problems come when guys think they know better then the coaches or perhaps a culture of accepting less than has been the way of doing things. They tend to hear the coach but not listen.

A losing culture has too much of hearing but not listening. They are use to doing what they think is right as opposed to following the instructions given or they don’t take the instruction and make it work for them. Theses guys will end up hurting themselves and the teams that they are on.

What’s not recognized by those type is that they will, in short order, be out of the game. Carnage by the side of the game’s road, is what they will be.

Whether it’s they can’t or won’t do what’s asked of them does matter to me. The can’t ones have to be replaced with those that can and will. The ones that won’t need to be replaced because they present an I know best attitude. Both will produce an overall losing mentality.

They are dangerous! Thus, they need to be found out, instructed and advised of the consequences of their mentality, then dealt with appropriately.

The good soldiers, team players, will get it. They are the ones that you give more ownership to. They will also be the ones that can and must reach and teach the others.

FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME

Loving You From The Inside

The inner spirit is there. Comforting, giving direction, unctions and vision. It is there constantly. Never wavering, never changing and always balanced.

When we get angry, lose our temper or having a moment of insanity, what is the cause of this? Is the inner spirit angry? The body is definitely affected. The heart races, temperature rises and nerves get frayed. When our minds return to normalcy, what has changed about the inner spirit. Has it moved? Is it altered by the anger that the mind and body has just experienced?

When an individual smokes a joint or ingest marijuana by eating, what is affected by the inhalation or ingestion? Is it the body or mind or Inner Spirit? When the affects of the smoking or eating have worn off, what has changed within? Has the spirit that is within been affected?

It is said that the Spirit is the same… Yesterday, today and tomorrow. It will never change and will always be. The inner Spirit is never affected by what our bodies or minds go through. It’s our one constant. It’s always there, watching and waiting for us. Ready and able to give, guide and direct at any moment. When we say, I’m drunk, high, angry or even sick… Or I suck, I failed or I’m a loser, who am I really talking about? For sure, not the inner spirit.

If we can save the judgement of ourselves and others, learn to feel from a balanced perspective, the Spirit will be there to catch all. Positive or not, the inner spirit is not affected. When we get off balance… And we will, check your inner guidance. Feel the balance that is provided and try to live a life from an inside out perspective. Freedom and love awaits.

Intent

Intent gives you direction. It will be a rudder to your boat, a wind to fill your sail and energy to make the right decisions in your life.

Knowing what you intend to achieve in each moment of life can help you build a solid foundation. Start each task with as clear an intent as possible. If you are an athlete, review as much as you can, as yourself, why are you going into this meeting, why are you going to run the hill? Give yourself as much energy as you desire. The more directed energy you have, the more you will head towards the future you desire.

The directed energy will help you overcome or shake off anything that can get you off course. If you have allowed anything to get you off course, then intent can get you redirected.

To me, intent gives you purpose. When your tired of going to a meeting, when you want to question your coaches decisions or when one of your teammates wants to do something that will hurt the process and progress of the team, your team’s overall intent can assist you.

Moment by moment, experience after experience, intent can keep you focused.

The mind wants to go on small trips. It wants to drift along the way sometimes. It wants to travel on the other side of town when you are in the meeting. It wants to take a nap instead of stay awake and get the most out of the meeting. Intent will help you build the mental muscle.

For the most part, training the mind is not what we focus on. Lifting weights and building strength takes rep after rep, year in and year out. Lifting mental weights should be focused on as well. Intent will assist in the weight training of the mind.

QB & Offensive Communication

It is well documented that the Jets try to break down the opponents pass protection so they can bring an extra guy. That extra guy is to sack, hit or at least make the QB throw the ball early.

There are many hours spent trying to figure out the blitz zone package that the Ryan brothers like to run. We had a feel for it when I coached with the Titans. I can’t give that secret away. It will cost ya.

Generally the center is the QB of the offensive line. Although that is the case, the QB has the ability to overrule him if he recognizes something the center can’t see. They identify the Mike backer which in turn tells the offensive line who they block. After that, the line will in turn make calls to each other so everyone is on the same page.

You see most QBs In the league walk up to the line, call out the number and point to the mike backer. Payton Manning and Tom Brady are players that are the most definitive prior to the snap. The declaration is made in both the passing and run game. It makes sure that everyone knows the mike but also where the other backers are. In the passing game it let’s the QB know where he is at risk when the defense blitzes.

We are back in the Jets vs Packer game… Green Bay has the the ball just before the half. Remember, the QB generally has the control over this declaration. But is this case the QB of the line…the center has the control.

The reason this is interesting is that on two occasions I heard Arron Rogers ask the lineman “where y’all going”? I almost laughed! Arron saw a overload blitz coming and wanted to know which way he would need to slide to deliver the ball. After getting the signal from the center, Arron did a great job of sliding, just enough, to his right or left to deliver the ball. It’s eight seconds left in the first half when he last did in the first half. It ended with a strike to Randall Cobb for a TD.

Excellent job of communication between Arron and his offensive line. It shows how good plays are made when everybody is on the same page.
